Sony Unveils PS5 Updates: Official Chromecast with Google TV Support for PS Remote Play
Sony has introduced a range of updates for PlayStation 5, including a significant enhancement for PS Remote Play, providing official support for streaming PS5 to Chromecast with Google TV and similar devices.
Starting today, the PS Remote Play app is accessible on devices running Android TV OS 12 or higher. While this technically extends compatibility to numerous Android TV and Google TV devices, official support is limited to Sony’s BRAVIA XR A95L and Google’s Chromecast with Google TV (4K). The Chromecast (HD) model, which runs on Android 12, should work but isn’t officially certified by Sony.
This update allows Chromecast with Google TV owners to stream PS5 gameplay over a local network, offering added flexibility for playing on multiple TVs within your home.
To utilize this feature, you’ll need a DualSense controller paired with the Chromecast.
On Android phones, the PlayStation app gains new features like emoji reactions for messages and Share Screen when joining other players’ parties. PS5 itself receives updates, including Dolby Atmos support, new party features, expanded SSD capacity, the ability to use a second controller to assist the primary player, and more. Sony details all these updates in a blog post.
